Whistleblowers got a slap in the face today
Awwwww yes. What a wonderful world Bush has created for all of us. His right wing US Supreme Court today decided (5-4) that whistleblowers in government agencies are not CITIZENS when they expose employer wrongdoing while on the job. In other words, employees cannot expose something illegal while on the job and are not protected by the First amendment Right of this country. They can lose their job or be demoted and are not protected to receive compensation for it. So, knowing this, if a whistleblower is aware of his or her employer doing illegal activity, take as many documents as you can, then quit your job and take the appropriate measures that way! Today's ruling was tipped by Samuel Alito who is known for always siding with the government and/or corporation and rarely, if ever, sides with the employees or citizens of this country! Not surprising. Eventually, this US Supreme Court will erode our rights down to a point of non-existence which is very troubling. At some point, it will be illegal to sue your employer (or any employer for that matter!) even if your employer was responsible for the deaths of a 100,000 people! Disgusting. I hate the world under Bush.
