Did Philip Merrill really kill himself?

Philip Merrill was CEO of Export/Import Bank and was sworn in by Dick Cheney for the position. He just recently got through with this position and then...bammo!....he's found floating in Chesapeake Bay with a gun shot to his head and with weights attached to his feet (there was also another prominent figure found dead near where Merrill was found and he had a gun shot to his head and was weighted down when found). Uh huh.
A suicide? Well, that is what his family and the authorities are saying, but what I can't figure out is why he had weights on his feet if he was taking his own life. Don't you think someone who is distraught wouldn't take the time to add weights to their feet before jumping overboard? Wouldn't it make more sense that someone who is suicidal would drive their boat to the middle of the Bay and then just shoot themselves in the head to end it? I think it's possible that Merrill was getting ready to spill the beans on more Bush Regime/republican corruption (through the Export/Import Bank and was murdered to keep him quiet) and was silenced.

Comments:
Wasn't there someone who committed suicide during the Clinton adminstration by shooting himself in the head? Didn't that get shitloads more airtime than this? I can dimly remember the conspiracy theorists swearing up and down to no end that this guy didn't kill himself; it was Hillary Clinton (or one of her staffers under her orders) who pulled the trigger. Or maybe I only thought it did because my dad had a subscription to one of those right wing rags. (Media Bypass, if you're curious. I think he finally let the damn subscription run itself out. Trust me, that would be a good thing if he did.)

Yup, you're thinking of Vince Foster. It was proven that he did kill himself and was not taken out like the neocons said back then.

Since the moment I wrote this post, the family is saying Merrill had had heart surgery and was depressed since the operation. What I can't understand is the way he killed himself...seems like an awful lot of work to do it (putting weights on his feet first before pulling trigger). It's funny though, the story was originally reporting that he did have weights on his feet and then when the coroner released his report, all newspapers are not reporting it now. Interesting....
