Al-Qaida operative paid money and given US legal status
When I was first reading this article, I figured it was an FBI guy posing as an al-Qaida informant to catch people in our country who were planning to do harm. I was thrilled, because this is exactly the type of 'terrorist catching' that John Kerry pointed out when he was running for president that catching terrorists in our country would be a better way to do it instead of bombing the crap out of a country to kill and find the terrorists. Kerry felt that our government should be setting up stings like we do for drug dealers: hang the carrot and see who comes. But I'm not sure this is what the FBI was doing this time. Yes, they held the 'carrot' out, but the man who was being used as an al-Qaida informant was not an American citizen. It appears he was from Yemen (think USS Cole and Osama's birthplace before the family moved to Saudi Arabia) He and another guy were paid by our government $56,000 for their services and were also given US legal status as well! That doesn't seem right to me! You mean to tell me that our government is allowing those who are associated with terrorism and connected to known terrorist groups are being used as informants in exchange for American citizenship? Is that productive? No!!! These men right now may seem innocent enough because they're helping us out, but that doesn't mean six months down the road they won't change! I'm cringing at the thought.
