Bush spoke to the NAACP today....

...right before the worst part of the hurricane season! Though, throughout most of his speech he was greeted with polite applause and with only a few hecklers, he did say that he wanted to mend the relationship between blacks Americans and the republican party, but time will tell in the next few months if Bush will be true to his words. The fiercest hurricanes are yet to come to our nation and after the lack of reaction and response coming from Bush and his Brownshirts after Hurricane Katrina hit last year (where many blacks drowned in their attics and where many were taken out of state), he had better be prepared or his party's approval rating will go down from 10% to 1%!
The people of the Katrina ravaged areas are still suffering today. It makes my heart ache when I see the pictures from those first few days after the hurricane and it still upsets me when I see whole neighborhoods demolished with no reconstruction going on or hear that another dead body has been found after all this time. What an American tragedy that day was. Watching our fellow Americans suffering needlessly while our president stood on a stage playing guitar with college students was just too much to bear. Finding out that Condi Rice was in New York City buying expensive shoes and was oblivious as to what was happening to the people of the Gulf Coast and only left the store when an American citizen yelled at her to leave and do her freaking job!!!!
Bush said today in his speech to the NAACIP that he is well aware that racism still exists in our country. Did it ever occur to him that he has contributed to it, as well as, his family? His mother's response to the underpriviledged after Katrina hit was atrocious! Between Bush and his mother, we understand now why the phrase, "Shit runs downhill", was created!!! This is a family that is too over-priviledged to the point that they have no idea how the "little people" in this country survive each day. To them, living in a sporting complex after Katrina ripped their homes apart was much better than living where they were living before their lives were destroyed. They're arrogant and as far as I'm concerned.......they're useless to our nation.
So, time will tell if Bush meant every word he said today. I hope he comes through for the black Americans in our nation, but history has proven that he, his Administration, and his family aren't up for the task and don't care.
We'll have to wait and see unfortunately.

Comments:
New Orleans was run for 40 years by the Democratic party - and the Mayors, chief of police, etc. have been "minority" people for decades....yet it was a wretchedly poor city.

Louisiana has been run by the democratic party for 40 years - and it too has been a poor state, despite having oil, a major port, huge tourism potential, etc.

CONGRESS is the one in charge of the purse in our nation, not the President. All he can do is veto spending packages, which BUSH has not done, not even once in 5 years! So if those levies and pumps weren't up to the job of protecting New Orleans from a CAT.4 hurricane, it's NOT BUSH'S FAULT. It's the fault of the Mayor and Governor and 40 years of DEMOCRATIC POLITICIANS WHO COULD HAVE SPENT THE MONEY TO IMPROVE THEIR OWN CITY BUT DIDN'T.

Then there's the little detail of federal law. The President CANNOT UNILATERALLY SEND IN FEMA OR THE MILITARY TO A DISASTER AREA UNLESS THE LOCALS ASK HIM TO...TO DO SO WOULD BE UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

When OTHER states face certain destruction from hurricanes their governors (like Florida or Texas) have declared disaster areas ahead of time... thus legally allowing the Feds to come in to assist. Lousiana's governor, a DEMOCRAT, didn't declare her state a disaster area until it was too late.

But typical of liberals to blame everyone else (especially Bush) for their problems rather than accept personal responsibility.
