Shocking! Bush has been using our Constitution as toilet paper
I watched the live press conference today of the American Bar Association (ABA) pointing out that Bush's signing statements (over 750 of them I may add!) he has used over the last 6 years is un-Constitutional. Well, no shit. Finally, a group of individuals has said it out loud and on t.v. live with the cameras rolling to record the moment forever! Jees. To me, Bush has acted like a spoiled rotten brat from Connecticut ever since he took the Oath of office in January 2001. Why? Because he has done everything opposite of what his father's and Clinton's Administrations have done or he has decided that he can pick and choose the powers of these presidents or other president and take those powers to the max! Clinton, during his tenure as president, used @ 130 signing statements. (To be honest, I think the priviledge of signing statements should be taken away from all presidents!) Apparently Bush and his Brownshirts said to themselves at some point, "Hey, if Clinton can do it....we can do it more!", and so he did. Bush has pretty much ignored every bill and law that has come across his desk because of these non-public signing statements. Oh, he's signed them all (except for the one on stem cell research, which he vetoed because he thinks that is murder and he would much rather that Americans kill when the human being is well established by living, breathing, and eating!), but with a stroke of a pen....he has ignored them all. Lunkhead feels that he is the Unitary Executive and he doesn't give a flying rat's ass what other presidents did. He feels he has the right and power to do what he wants. This is why it was so important for the ABA to come out today and demand an inquiry from Congress! Of course, the president of the ABA said tongue in cheek that Bush, after Congress passes a new bill stating that the president cannot abuse this power, will sign the bill but will then use a signing statement to ignore it, so to prevent that, he is asking the republicans in Congress to get off their asses and do something about it! One avenue the republican controlled Congress can use? They can sue Bush. Oh how I would love that! They won't but Americans are steaming mad and having the ABA down the throats of the republicans on this issue might be exactly what our country needs!
