Anna Politkovskaya, a Russian journalist...
...was murdered today in Russia because of who she was as a journalist. She was a woman of integrity and spent a good part of her life recording the horrific history in Chechnya, who at the hands of the Russians, suffered unspeakable tragedies. War is not pretty and Anna's writings reflected that. Writing her books was a death sentence for her, but she wrote them anyways. Anna was a true Patriot. Here's what the author (unknown) of The Nation article linked above expressed about her:
I met Politkovskaya a few times--in Moscow, in New York at our apartment and at a Committee to Protect Journalist's dinner in New York where she was honored. She was passionate about the horror of the war--and the injustice and corruption she believed was strangling Russia. There was a bluntness to her personal style--as there was to her investigative reporting. A mother of two, Politkovskaya must have felt fear as she took on the most powerful forces in Russia, but she never let it interfere with what she believed was her duty as a journalist. In an interview two years ago with the BBC, Politkovskaya said "I am absolutely sure that risk is [a] usual part of my job; job of [a] Russian journalist, and I cannot stop because it's my duty. I think the duty of doctors is to give health to their patients, the duty of the singer is to sing. The duty of [the] journalist [is] to write what this journalist sees is the reality. It's my one duty."What has possessed me to write about Anna today is not just about her death, which is so tragic, but more about how her strength, courage, and honesty throughout her reporting was very much like 'America's Anna': MSNBC's Keith Olbermann! Many bloggers online have been talking about how Keith Olbermann received a letter at his office within the last week or so that contained fake Anthrax. Even though the Anthrax wasn't real, the individual who sent it was sending a clear message to Olbermann to be afraid....be very, very afraid. Afraid of what? I'll tell you why! He was speaking truth to power against the worst, most criminal, and vile presidency in the history of our nation!
Olbermann, like Anna, never has and will never back down to the threats that are made against him, because he's a decent man who is reporting the truth. In fact, Olbermann took the time on his evening news program right after he received this tainted letter to point out to his viewers (and quite possibly the person who sent the fake Anthrax to him) that he will not back down. He did not stand down in the face of adversity and why should he for crying out loud! This is freaking America and Olbermann has a right to speak the truth and speak it loudly!!! Spit.
At this point, Olbermann's show is the only voice of reason on the evening airways for American's to understand what is REALLY going on in Washington. CNN, Fox News, and all of the other shows on MSNBC tend to lack what Americans want to hear: the truth and in-depth reporting. Is Keith Olbermann's life on the line for doing what he knows is best for our country? I believe it is and how sad it is that our country in six short years has become as bad as how Russia treated someone like Anna Politkovskaya!!!! It's insane if you ask me, but this is the world that the Bush Regime has created. They want us to live in fear. They want us to fear them. Well, I've got news for the assholes......true Patriots will never, ever stand down to these Swines!
The Swines in the White House are the TRUE cowards of our nation because they refuse to allow the truth to come out about what they've done (and haven't done) for the past 6 years. Only a coward would want to avoid the truth and would threaten anyone who tried to expose him or her! What a bunch of warmongering, criminal, corrupt, lying, stinking cowards they are...
