White Noise Insanity

Can you believe that? What will the religious right wingers in our country say when they find out that the gay daughter of the Vice President of the United States is pregnant and the 'father' bringing up this child will be a woman? Wow! Oh, how I wish I could be a fly on the wall in Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson's home!

I honestly think it's terrific when a gay couple who is in love and who wants to have a child together do so. I think it's their right to be able to extend their families as they see fit and I think gay couples make wonderful parents. In Mary Cheney's case, however, she has been a vocal spokesperson against gay marriage. Why? Why would she now have a child with her lover of 15 years but wouldn't marry her? Personally, I don't think two people should have to be married to raise a child, but I find it odd that Mary Cheney is using all her rights except the very controversial one of gay marriage. She could be a huge advocate for gay couples in this country. She could be the poster child to the religious right to prove that loving a person of the same sex, having a child with that person whether through adoption or whatever, and being married to that person will not push the planet off it's axis and will not hurt the marriages between a man and a woman!

My heart goes out to Mary and Heather in wanting to love and raise a child. Let's hope they start a new dialogue in this country about gay couples. They have the power to make change and let's hope they use it.
