Robert Gates confirmation hearing starts today
Oh boy. The word is that his confirmation to the post of Secretary of Defense will be easy and will be confirmed even by democrats in the Senate because they want to get started on a new direction in the Iraq occupation. Well, for the love of the Banana Cupcakes, will Robert Gates change the direction or will he just be a typical Bush-crony hell bent on protecting the Bush family's reputation (their son George has pretty much ruined it at this point along with his mother) and do what they want in the end (stay the course!)?
Let's hope the democrats on this committee ask the tough questions of Robert Gates. He does not have a history that proves he can be an independent man:
The democrats have got to start now in being a strong arm against the Bush Regime. The End.
The New York Times asked some top officials what questions they would ask if they were on the committee. Let's hope all of these questions are asked!!!!
Let's hope the democrats on this committee ask the tough questions of Robert Gates. He does not have a history that proves he can be an independent man:
Robert Gates, who begins his confirmation hearing Tuesday as President Bush's choice to replace Donald Rumsfeld as Secretary of Defense, is expected to have little trouble winning Senate approval. Even Democrats who have had issues with Gates in the past are anxious to begin course corrections in the Pentagon's troubled Iraq war strategy. And means the hearings will most likely be a far cry from the last ones Gates faced — when George Herbert Walker Bush picked Gates to be CIA director in 1991.Do we really want a guy who was highly involved in the Iran/Contra scandal of years ago to be the leader of our military? Wouldn't it make sense to have someone who has experience in the military, such as...a General perhaps? I don't like the idea of Gates being in there. If he ends up being as bad or worse as Donald Rumsfeld, then I will blame those democrats who helped put this guy in power!
Gatess came to that hearing with baggage, having withdrawn his nomination to be CIA director four years earlier because of questions raised about his role in the Iran-contra affair. By 1991, the Berlin Wall had fallen, but Gates's nomination to be the nation's top spy reopened an intense debate that had been festering within U.S. intelligence since the dawn of the Cold War: How big a threat was the Soviet Union?
Ironically, his second nomination to be CIA director was almost sunk by the same accusation the current Bush administration has faced on Iraq — that intelligence was slanted to suit hard-line policies toward an enemy. During highly charged confirmation hearings in the fall of 1991, which were unprecedented for an agency that usually keeps its bureaucratic battles shrouded in secrecy, past and current CIA employees accused Gates of cooking the books on the Soviet threat. As then-Director William Casey's intelligence analysis chief and later deputy director in the 1980s, Gates had shaped intelligence reports to suit Casey's and Ronald Reagan's anti-Soviet agenda, agency critics charged.
The democrats have got to start now in being a strong arm against the Bush Regime. The End.

unfortunately, I think Gates is a shoe-in. He is just more cronyism, and is also from Texas!! We have a lot of karma to work off down here.
I smell sulfur and it's coming from the White House!!!!
I have a feeling Gates will be confirmed too, but I will hold the democrats accountable as well as the republicans for not looking at the best interest of the American people, as well as our soldiers, if Gates ends up being a huge crony who can't think for himself (or continues to do illegal crap like Rummy did!).

Gates said today we are losing the war in Iraq at his confirmation hearing.
Tony Snow said afterward we are winning the war in Iraq.
Now that Gates has been confirmed by the spineless politicians, lets see how long it will be before Gates says " We Are Winning In Iraq."

Exactly right Larry. Will we blame the democrats as much as the republicans for allowing this Bush family friend & crony to be confirmed? You betcha!!!
I've had it with our current government players. They all suck.

The Democrats are as phony as the rest.
They want this out of the way so they can play on K street like the big boys.
In the meantime, more death, more lies and more money lining the Bush/Cheney wagon train.

I have a feeling that it will be the liberals that will be the most respected in this country by the time the 2008 election comes along. Why? Because we are the ones who are not partisan and we want what is best for our country! We want to uphold what it is that our forefathers wanted for all of us!
We are the true Patriots of this country. Should the democrats prove to be just as bad as the republicans, well they had better step aside, because if they don't, they will be pushed aside!
My country is more important than my party. The End. :-)
